Modern and independent seventeen year old Morgan Westbrook thought she had seen all there was to her home town of Scarlet, Georgia, but one day while walking in the woods behind her house she discovers a mysterious door masked behind the trees. After admiring the door’s timeless beauty she walks through its entrance to venture into more woods, but what she doesn’t know is that the door is a gateway through time that takes her back to the year 1863 during the days of the Civil War in Scarlet.

Without knowing that she had traveled back in time, she stumbles upon Danny Carson, an attractive young man who is appalled to see that Morgan is wearing skimpy modern clothes instead of a nineteenth century dress. Although they find each other completely different than anyone they’ve ever known, they cannot help but feel drawn to one another. After spending time in another century, she discovers that she's time traveled back to the year 1863 and that the door took her there. For months she and Danny journey back and forth through the door to experience the joys of traveling to both of their centuries. When dilemmas of unwanted marriage, slavery, and war are thrown at them, they must face the perils that time travel has delivered them in both the future and the past.

Character interview for Morgan Westbrook from Scarlet Woods

December 10th people! That's the day Scarlet Woods will be able to purchase on Amazon or Nook! Oh gosh it's so scary to have my book out into the world but it's a day I've been looking forward to forever now. I have a few reviews on goodreads for the book and many more reviewers that are in the works of reading it. I have to thank all the precious girls who have put in the time and effort into blog tours/guest posts/giveaways/interviews so they could help my story be heard. I love bloggers and am excited to see this journey of self publishing grow.

To get better acquainted with one of the characters from the book here's a character interview with Morgan Westbrook, the heroine of Scarlet Woods.

-Morgan, thanks for putting aside some of your time traveling to answer some questions for this interview.

      I’m happy to do it, besides Danny was the one time traveling to see me in the future today so I didn’t miss out on anything really.

-So, how exactly do you time travel to the year 1863?

     

      I found out about time travel accidentally one day. I came upon this door in the woods behind my house and had no idea that walking through it would take me back to another century. It was a crazy experience and I still don’t know how that door is a portal through time, but hey it works so I take full advantage of time traveling every day.

-Is there anyone who knows that you time travel?

      Just Danny, no one else knows our secret. We can’t risk telling anyone about the door and have people think we’re crazy.

-Now Danny Carson is the boy you met back in 1863 correct?

      Yeah, he lives here in Scarlet but I live in the future while he lives in 1863. It’s weird that we both live in the same town but since we live in different centuries it’s like we live on two different planets since our time periods are so opposite.

-So speaking of Danny, he is engaged right?

      Yeah…

-And I’m guessing that you don’t get along with his fiancée?

     

      I would rather jump off a cliff if it meant avoiding her.

-What’s the best thing about time traveling back to the nineteenth century?

      Oh gosh it’s so much fun! I can’t even describe how incredible it is to be able to time travel. There are so many things I love about it that it’s so hard to choose what’s best. Even though sometimes I don’t like all the layers to the undergarments in the nineteenth century, I really do enjoy parading around in all the luxurious dresses I have. Also, men are much more gentlemanly to women during this time.

-What’s the worst thing about the nineteenth century?

      I freakin hate slavery. End of story. I could go on and on. Thanks to time travel, I have met this boy named Sam who is a slave and I just hate what all he has to go through at his plantation. Some slaves aren’t treated as bad as him, but still I don’t like it.

-Do you have any people in your life right now that you don’t care for?

      Well there’s Danny’s fiancée Evelyn Walker, who hates my guts, and then there’s her brother Roy Walker, who also hates my guts. I can’t stand the sight of him. He’s such a douche. The Walkers are the ones who own Sam. Roy is the main one who treats Sam bad. Every time I see Roy I want to punch him in the face.

-Is the Civil War a big problem during this time for you and Danny?

      The war hasn’t come to Scarlet yet. It will though eventually in 1864. I’ve told Danny about how the Union will come through Scarlet and practically destroy our town to the ground. He is scared of what is to happen to his home.

New blog name, new blog design, new cover for book!

I redecorated my blog and I'm loving it! It's much prettier and funner and looks like flowers from Wonderland. And instead of my blog being called 'Brooke Passmore's blog', which to me sounded incredibly dull, it's now called 'Writings and Ramblings of Brooke Elise Passmore' so it doesn't sound so lifeless, plus it now shows my middle name in the title which I added to my pen name to spicen it up. I also changed my cover a little bit. It's not that drastic of a change, but I think it's much better than what it used to be.

But I have to say I'm little embarrassed. My last post was titled 'Scarlet Woods will hopefully be out by July or August!' Haha, now it's early September so yeah I overestimated my time management. I recently got a full time job working as a dental assitant so that takes over everything, but outside of work comes family and my book. I am still in the process of getting Scarlet Woods converted into an eBook, but that's not the part that will take such a long time. The long and hard part of this whole independent publishing thing is the marketing. Oh, goodness, I am in no way a marketer. I'm a writer so this will not be my strong suit.

On that note, if any of my wonderful followers, or any guests to my blog for that matter, happen to see this post and are interested in my book and have a YA book blog you should defenitely email me or leave me a comment if you would like to review Scarlet Woods. I will let you know when the book conversion will be done and send you the eBook! The book conversion process is nearly complete so everything will hopefully be done soon. My book is literally haunting my thoughts and I don't know how many times a day I think about my characters. I don't know what it is about wanting to have people read the words I have jotted down but it's a desire that's been alive inside of me ever since I was a little girl staying up late at night with a flashlight under the covers just so I could still write my stories past midnight.

I joined the authorprogram on goodreads so now Scarlet Woods can be looked up by the search engine! Ah! So cool! As of right now I have put on goodreads that my book will be published in December, but hopefully that isn't the case. I'm hoping for October/November since I'm very close to finishing the conversion. All the extra time before getting it on eBooks will be dedicated to book blogging.

So the rest of the year will be very interesting. There's all the chaos with trying to get Scarlet Woods on eBooks, more polishing teeth and taking x-rays at work, and Elena Gilbert is now officially a vampire on Vampire Diaries (haha, that one will be fun!) I'm sorry I had to mention TVD, what can I say I'm obsessed!

Aw! I haven't posted a blog in forever! Feel so guilty! I just got a full time job as a dental assistant so I've been busy. I've been researching what I would like to do to try and put my book onto ebooks. I'm trying to decide which route to take. I'm wondering if I should try to have it go through Createspace, Smashwords, or just do it myself. I'm not so much into Smashwords, but Createspace is making me wonder what I should do. With Createspace I could have Scarlet Woods be on ebooks and in paperback whereas if I published my book without going through anyone I would only have Scarlet Woods on ebooks without there being anyway for people to buy a physical copy.

Oh, and did anyone see the season finale to Vampire Diaries?!?!!!!????!! Dear sweet Lord that was the best season finale I have seen in a long while. So intense and such a twist in all sorts of directions in that episode with the Klaus/Tyler issue, Damon really being the one to meet Elena first, and of course Elena turning into a vampire! I knew that would happen eventually, but dude I didn't see that would happen after the car crash. Ah! Such a good episode!

I'm so close to having Scarlet Woods put out on ebooks. I just have to have my manuscript go through an ebook conversion and I'll be set, but first I'm researching on if I should do it myself or pay someone to do it for me (if I don't choose to go through Createspace that is). I'm going on vacation next week so after that I'm dedicated to getting Scarlet Woods out there for people to read. I'll try to have it published sometime in July or August. I need to make an author profile on goodreads to let goodreads fans know that I'm not just a person I'm a writer with a good story about time travel and romance in the old south.

And if anyone wants to read Scarlet Woods before it's out on ebooks let me know and I'll try to email you an advanced copy. And I'm sorry the best thing I could do as of right now would be through email but that's all I got.

I have completely finished Scarlet Woods! I edited and reread everything so many times and finally I am done! It took me almost two years for it to be overall satisfied with it.

I am already over 100 pages into my next book and it's coming along smoothly. It had been so long since I had fully written like this and it makes me happy to continue my characters' stories. For months I have just been revising and editing my book that I hadn't gotten to write as much as I would have wanted. I feel as if writing this book is much easier than when I wrote the first one. The first book I wrote took me longer because I didn't work on it all the time at the start of writing it like I did near finishing it. Now all I do is write so I feel like I should finish writing the second one so much quicker than the first.

I have also started creating my book cover! I love it! I hope that everyone does too. I tried to put a door in the background because if anyone has read the synopsis of Scarlet Woods then they'd know that there's a door that is a major part of the story.

Sorry I haven't written on my blog in like forever and I am going to try to keep up with it. With any luck I will try to get my book onot ebooks by late summer.

True Blood and the Civil War

Ah! I haven't written in so long! I feel like my "write in my blog" new year's resolution isn't getting enough attention already... But I finally donated blood for the first time ever on Thursday so atleast that's checked off. Hopefully I donate twice a month, another new year's resolution of mine.

Speaking of blood, I got the first two seasons of True Blood on DVD for Christmas and have finally been able to watch them. I've never seen the show before but I must say it's awesome! I love their town they live in with all the beautiful trees. And once again my fascination with trees comes into play. I watch the show and my eyes are glued to the Spanish moss. I wish we had Spanish moss in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but sadly we don't. In the first few episodes of True Blood I love how when they talked about "The War" they were meaning the Civil War. It's like the people in the South are still effected by that war even after 150 some years.

I tell myself all the time that I should have been from the south. I really should have been. I love the architecture, the trees, the accents, the culture, and the history! Most people from other states would think that Oklahoma is a southern state but I agree to disagree. We are in the midwest more so than anything else. What I call southern is a state along the Gulf of Mexico border (besides Texas) and the states that were apart of the Confederacy in the Civil War. Those are the true southern states.

In my book Scarlet Woods, there is alot to to deal with the Civil War and the Confederacy. It really pains me that sometimes the people in our country don't know our own story. I've heard of people think that the Civil War was the war when we fought the British... really folks, next time open your history books when in the classroom. I just hope I'll give a little history lesson if someone reads my book.

Well I have been recently looking into small publishing companies lately, ones that are big on promoting ebooks. I have queried a few of them and am waiting to hear back from them. If they were to publish me then maybe I wouldn't have to do my own marketing, which I'm sure I'd be very bad at. Plus they'd make the book cover much cooler than anything I would come up with. But we'll see how this goes.

I have decided to give Scarlet Woods another read through and am half way done with it. I've read through my book countless of times, but that's okay since I love it with every bone in my body. I hope that if anybody read it on ebooks someday will have a love for American history and the Civil War as much as I do.
